The golden age of automobiles had some unmistakable signs of the prevailing fashion of the day. If you could go back to the past, to this specific time, and take a look at the cars that cruise past you, it would be quite common to see a lot of the round stuff.

In the ’50s, and truly even way before, the headlights, signal lights, and taillights were round, shares Gene Bernshtam. Even the general contour of the cars’ bodies was rounded, without any sharp edges or corners. Even car rims, which could really do away with hub caps, were fixed with convex hub caps to accentuate roundedness to the fullest.

Something about this shape made the cars stand out under the light of the day, and to cover the ends and other extremities, the so-called nooks and crannies of the car’s appearance, you simply had to make use of chrome fixtures, as a complement the car’s roundedness.

Even to this day, using chrome fixtures is like adding jewelry to your car. Mostly, chroming is taken seriously by many vintage car restoration aficionados because the mirror shine finish gives the car its classic vibe.

When chrome is done properly, it gives your vintage car an immaculate, luxurious look, which undoubtedly fetches a high price for your project vehicle.

Gene Bernshtam has a love for cars that goes beyond collecting. At present, he is involved in the restoration of some classic models. For more on what he does, visit this page.
